    Artistic sensibility has not
changed that much since the stone age, said the professional artist Heidi
Maria Guhl Matuschka at the opening of her exhibition in the city hall in
Grasbrunn. The artist’s point of view concerning the artistic power of human
beings may sound unrelenting but it is utterly realistic. A good example
could be, for instance, the regular elements constantly reproposed in
figurative art to give shape to the existential matters: interweaving
relationships among earth, human being and cosmos together with the fate
taking origin from that very interweaving.

    Gods played an important role
in the works of art in ancient times while in modern times it is the human
being to be the centre of the artistic interest. This is exactly what
Guhl-Matuschka tries to express in an exemplary way with her cycle “Birth
and fate” (Acrylic). Fate has brought on earth, close to a naked tree
branching off upwards and downwards, women painted with soft pink-oranges
tones. With his enlightened eyes the human being can see his existence,
which is represented through a navel cord having the form of a DNA double
helix. A baby is swinging at the end of this navel cord.

    The journey through
time finishes in the foyer of the town hall where pop art and post modern
art are awaiting the observers. The series of paintings with the title “A
changing godess” shows an ancient rounded Terracotta-shape surrounded by
white rectangulars representing the stars. The world is accidental and
chaotic as the identity of the human being is changeable. The change never
ends and it finds its expression in changeable body patterns. This element
could refer back to the previous job of the artist: she worked for a long
time and very successfully as a costume and fashion designer. |
